Confederate Battle Flag
The Confederate Battle Flag is also known as the Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia and the Southern Cross. Designed by William Porcher Miles and first put into service by General Beauregard as a remedy to confusion on the field of battle between the Union flag and the Stars & Bars, the Battle Flag served from November 1861 until the end of the war. The original flags were made in three sizes with somewhat irregular dimensions that were standardized to 30" square (excluding border) for Cavalry, 36" square for Artillery and 48" square for the Infantry.
Both the sewn cotton and the sewn nylon Confederate Battle flags are carefully stitched here in the US by experienced American craftsmen and finished with a heavy-duty canvas duck header and solid brass grommets.
| Size | Number of Grommets |
|---|---|
| 32" x 32" | 2 |
| 38" x 38" | 3 |
| 51" x 51" | 5 |
