A Short History of the Delaware State Flag
The state of Delaware may be diminutive, geographically speaking, but it holds a position of the highest esteem in the history of our country. You see, Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States, thereby enshrining it's legacy as the first state of our newly created country.
When the Delaware state flag design was adopted in 1913, officials were careful to include the date the Constitution was ratified by Delaware across the bottom of the flag, lest anyone forget. The design elements of the State Seal depict the great diversity of industry within the state and it's importance as a port.
