A Short History of the Florida State Flag
The Florida state flag features a red Cross of St. Andrew as does the Alabama flag but includes the State Seal at the center of the flag. The State Seal, which was adopted in 1868, depicts a Seminole woman, a palm tree, a steamboat and flowers and has undergone minor revisions over the years to achieve greater accuracy. For example, a headdress was removed from the Seminole woman since only Seminole men wore them.
One interesting fact about the Florida state flag: A phrase that has been the subject of a great deal of controversy in recent years, "In God We Trust," first appeared on the State Seal, long before it's appearance on U.S. currency.
