A Short History of the Minnesota State Flag

The Minnesota state flag consists of the State Seal within a white circle with yellow borders over a blue background. The white circle contains the name of the state as well as nineteen stars, signifying Minnesota's place as the nineteenth state to join the Union following the thirteen original colonies. The stars are cleverly arranged in such a way to form the points of a five-pointed star.

Three dates appear on the flag: 1819, the year Fort Snelling was founded; 1858, the year Minnesota was admitted to the Union; and 1893, the year the Minnesota flag was adopted.
