A Short History of the Missouri State Flag
Although Missouri became the twenty-fourth state to join the Union in 1821, and figured so prominently in the history of the westward expansion, it would be nearly a century before a State flag was adopted. The State flag of Missouri, made from an original design by Marie Elizabeth Watkins Oliver, was officially adopted in 1913, just a few short years before American soldiers would set off to fight in Europe in the First World War.
The Missouri State flag is an easily recognizable design consisting of the State Seal at the center, a blue band with 24 white stars around it and a background of three horizontal red, white and blue stripes.
