A Short History of the Nebraska State Flag
Although Nebraska achieved Statehood in 1867, the issue of a Nebraska State flag did not surface until 1921, when a design was introduced to the Legislature for consideration. Being that the design came not from a fellow Nebraskan, but an architect from New York, it was swiftly rejected as "inappropriate".
Four years later, a design consisting of the State Seal over a blue background was brought before the State Legislature and was accepted. And finally, in 1963, the State Legislature once again voted, this time to codify the 1925 design as the official State Flag of Nebraska.
